Indeed, we are now in the future!
2021 is very different in flavour from the calendar year that was 2020. It is an edgy year that is a follow-on from or as a result of the events of 2020. Where we are now, started brewing in 2019. Those difficulties seem to fade into insignificance after the tumultuous 2020. However, 2019 was a year loaded with pressures of all kinds. It gave a sense of “things have to change” and 2020 brought about just that! A year of fundamental shifts in consciousness!
So, where to from here?
We closed 2020 off with an important signature of new beginnings. On the 21st December (solstice), the conjunction of Saturn (i.e. contraction, longevity, responsibility, pragmatism) and Jupiter (i.e. expansion, consciousness, luck, idealism) catapulted us into a new era. It is a new 20-year cycle of social, economic and financial reset. I’d like to explain the extent of this shift, by looking back at previous cycles. The Jupiter Saturn conjunctions occur every 20 years. Thus 2000, 1980, 1960, 1940, 1920, 1900, 1880 etc. A good image to conjure up is the difference between 1959 and 1961 (1960 being the pivotal year). Similarly, 80s and 90s were different from the 60s and 70s. Therefore, 2020 was the pivotal year from where we step into a new reality and global flavour.
Aquarius AIR element
In Aquarius (an AIR sign), 2021 marks the beginning of a universal era of global education, communication, technology and innovation. We may think that we are technologically advanced, but we ain’t seen nothing yet. Watch the sci-fi progress unfold over this cycle! How and what we think and speak (AIR) has always been important, but mindfulness of our thoughts and consequential behaviour is in sharp focus from now on. Mental health and strength are of paramount importance. “Psychological flexibility gives us the ability to shift perspectives and actions” Dr S. Koydemir.
As an MSc student of Transpersonal Psychology, I am delighted to say that we may over the next years also see science and spirituality reunited eg. Joe Dispenza et. al.
The element of AIR also signifies the respiratory such as lungs and breathing. COVID-19, however, like the last pandemic HIV/AIDS, which broke out during the last Saturn Pluto conjunction, is most likely a virus that we learn to live with for quite111some time to come. Or the bare minimum for at least 2.5 years (whilst Saturn is in Aquarius). Part of this cycle is the HIV/AIDS (1982) and Spanish Flu (1918) History Repeating Itself.
Explosive, force and power
On the day of the above, much talked about Jupiter/Saturn meeting, the planet Mars squared Pluto. This is explosive energy. It warned of the explosive outbreak of infections and clampdown by authorities that we find ourselves in currently. Mars will make contact with Pluto again in June, October 2021 and blows itself out during March 2022. So, caution is also warranted toward the end of May, June, as well as October 2021.
“the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties, toughness
the ability of a substance or object to spring back into shape, elasticity“
Resilience is my motto for 2021. How to stay buoyant in the face of adversity and constant change. That’s our challenge. The Fixed signs Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius are the signs most challenged in 2021 and part of 2022. This holds true if your Sun sign, Moon sign or Ascendant is in a fixed sign. The exact fixed degrees affected are 7°-11° but 5° either sides of this spectrum, will feel the effects of the plant Saturn (Aquarius) squaring Uranus (Taurus) in 2021 (see table below for their past and future cycles).
Saturn as we know by now is resistant to change and symbolises structure, discipline and limitations. Uranus on the other hand is the liberator and abhors the norm. Therefore, their innate symbolisms are in stark contrast. Stark, being the operative word! Their connection creates tension and stress. Uranus wants new and change and Saturn holds on to the past and old. The resulting events are sudden, unexpected, drastic and shocking changes. Uranian energy is unstable and unpredictable so it is difficult to gauge the exact outcome.
This is why resilience and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances become important, which is what the fixed signs (and earth signs) generally struggle with. The areas normally most affected by their cycles are the financial markets, aviation, technology and politics. Look back on the diagram above. Do you recognise the years 1987, 2000 and 2008? Yes, I’m flagging the financial markets in 2021 due to 2020’s events. I believe there will be a sharp drop in the stock market. Technology may be challenged or could easily be involved in one of the meltdown periods and so are unrests and upheaval. We are in for a roller coaster year. Flag the dates February (16th the exact date), June (15th) and December (24th) 2021. Furthermore, the 28th of January 2021 (full moon), may well be the dates that precede February’s events.
Innovation and Advancement
The symbolic combination of these two protagonists are also dynamic and part of evolution. When harnessed correctly and with change as a precursor, it marks extraordinary breakthroughs and innovation. The theme of technological advancement and innovation in general repeats itself with this signature. Bitcoin was birthed in 2009 and broke through the 10000 USD barrier in 2010! We are indeed heading into technological advancement and extraordinary times.
It is important to remember that change can go either be for better or for worse. Also, everything is exactly as it should be! This is a model advocated by the International Institute of Radical Forgiveness and Leadership. Life happens for us as an opportunity for growth! It’s how we deal with it, that defines the outcome. Our ability to be adaptable and understand that it’s up to us to make the best of our lives and circumstances are of paramount importance. Be innovative, think out the box, try new ideas, adapt constantly, move with the times and create exciting opportunities for yourself, which you may never have thought possible. 2021 is the year to do so!
In closing, there is no imagining of the future by the recreation of a secure past that was – the future is dynamic. It is up to us individually and collectively to decide whether we are living with past blinkers, eyes wide shut or eyes wide open, participating and thriving in the new reality.
Wishing you and your family a blessed and peaceful passage into the new year.
